Yea, its pretty crazy how many people I tell that I have the disease know someone with it. There are a lot of sick people out there, and a significant percentage of them can't get the health care they need because they can't afford it.

I was listening to NPR on the way to work and was captivated by this guy nearby in Apex, NC that charges only cash for his services, sees his patients for an hour at a time, charges set reasonable fees (eg.. $50 for an hour visit) and in the end makes more money then normal doctors. Here is a link to the archives . It was the March 19,2007 episode.

According to this guy there are currently 4 support staff for every 1 doctor in a normal clinic. He shares his clinic with 1 other doctor and they have 1 part time person to come in and do scheduling and referrals. You know the prices because they are posted like at Jiffy Lube (his analogy, not mine).
Well worth listening to if you've got the time.

i concur. unfortunately I never saw the need for universal health care until my own health became threatened. it is difficult to sell this concept to those who do not see the moral need. it is now a passion of mine as well though. i think enough diseases and illnesses are escalating fast enough in this country that soon we will all be debilitated somehow and then stubborn America will come to its senses.
